Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, two of the most distinctive vocalists in modern music, recently put the finishing touches on Raising Sand – their astonishing new collaborative album. Set for release October 23 on Rounder Records, the album was produced by T Bone Burnett and recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles with a stellar cast of supporting musicians, including guitarists Marc Ribot and Norman Blake, multi-instrumentalist Mike Seeger, drummer Jay Bellerose, and bassist Dennis Crouch. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss have finally completed a long-discussed collaboration.
Raising Sand, out Oct. 23 on Rounder Records, was produced by T Bone Burnett. The two have known each other for seven years and performed together at a Leadbelly tribute concert in 2004.
Raising Sand finds them singing songs associated with the Everly Brothers, as well as tunes by Townes Van Zandt, Tom Waits and Doc Watson. They also include a Plant/Jimmy Page song, Please Read the Letter, that appeared on that duo’s 1999 Walking Into Clarksdale. Musicians on Raising Sand include Mike Seeger, guitarists Marc Ribot and Norman Blake, drummer Jay Bellerose and bassist Dennis Crouch.
